Three suspected drug traffickers arrested in Kilifi

In Summary

  • Swalehe Yusuf Ahmed has pending court cases and was allegedly drug-dealing while out on bond.
  • Also arrested was Susan Mukonyo who runs an M-Pesa shop in Kikambala, Kilifi.

A Mombasa Court is set to rule today on how long police will hold three suspects arrested for allegedly trafficking in narcotics.

Swalehe Yusuf Ahmed, Suleiman Salim Kaingu and Susan Mukonyo Mutuku were arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives in Kikambala, Kilifi County, on Wednesday. They were arraigned in court yesterday.

Swalehe and Suleiman, says detectives from Transnational Organised Crime unit, had in their possession one kilogram of Heroin with an estimated street value of KSh3 million. Susan operates a mobile money shop through which the suspects allegedly laundered the drug trafficking proceeds.

“Swalehe is notoriously known as a trafficker of the hard drug in the coastal region, having two related cases pending before court, and has been carrying on with the illegal business while out on bond,” DCI says.

Pending Cases

In the pending cases, he has been charged with trafficking over 105 kilos of Heroin with an estimated street value of KSh285 million, “money which he launders alongside various operatives that work for him.”

The sleuths say the trio has “been operating with impunity across the country and beyond in the guise of engaging in legitimate businesses.”
