Daring thief clings onto 43-inch TV during arrest as robbery mission backfires

A robbery with violence suspect was on Tuesday night arrested by police after a botched robbery attempt in Nairobi’s Shauri Moyo area.

Ian Otieno, 25, and three other persons had reportedly broken into a house of a family within Jua Kali area at around 10 pm.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the four-man gang had ordered the victims to cooperate and lie down lest they suffer dire consequences.

The DCI reports that they robbed the family of three mobile phones, before unmounting a 43-inch Hisense TV.

They were in the process of ransacking the whole house for more valuables when a neighbor who had spotted the gang raised a distress call.

This startled the robbers who scampered to safety escaping the wrath of a thronging mob.

“…Otieno had brandished a dagger with which he inflicted a cut on the neighbour’s head, perhaps for spoiling their felonious party,” says DCI.

Police from Shauri Moyo were alerted

The man of the house alerted the police at the nearby Shauri Moyo Police Station who pursued the criminals, arresting Otieno who was still clutching at the stolen TV.

“A bloodstained knife was also found tucked in his trousers,” adds the DCI.

Otieno now awaits arraignment for violent robbery as police pursue the rest of the gang members.
