Sacked 2NK driver finally meets DCI boss George Kinoti

John Maina Muthoni, the ex-2NK Sacco driver who hit the headlines for reporting drunk and disorderly students in his vehicle, has finally met with Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti.

The two met at the DCI headquarters on Thursday evening, in the company of Kiambu Nominated MCA Mercy Nungari.

DCI Kinoti celebrated John Maina Muthoni’s bravery, after he tried in vain to contain intoxicated kids who had boarded his matatu and drove the vehicle to a police station. DCI Kinoti wondered how 2NK Sacco would result to such a punitive action instead of encouraging other drivers to emulate Maina’s good example.

Maina had earlier been invited by the DCI chief upon receiving news of his sacking, that was condemned by many Kenyans online.

Kinoti encouraged Maina to continue upholding good morals and standing up for what is right.

“Mr Kinoti celebrated his bravery, after he tried in vain to contain the intoxicated kids and drove the vehicle to a police station. He wondered how 2NK Sacco would result to such a punitive action instead of encouraging other drivers to emulate Maina’s good example,” says the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

What transpired between Maina and students

Mid this month, Maina earned adulations after his single-handed act of courage against weed-smoking, alcohol-imbibing group of rowdy students travelling in his van. The students, who were heading home on mid-term break, had boarded the Matatu at Karatina terminus, Nyeri.

Upon reaching Kibingoti, en route Nairobi, they turned the van into a drugs-and-drink den. He pleaded with them to stop but these pleas fell on deaf ears. Short of options, Maina valiantly detoured towards Sagana Police Station.

The ‘cornered’ students allegedly fled by jumping through the windows of the Matatu as Maina neared the police station. They reportedly left behind half-smoked joints, bottles of liquor and luggage.

Sacked by 2NK, hired by Nyeri County

His sacking may come as a blessing in disguise after the County Government of Nyeri offered him a job following his unceremonious sacking.

Governor Mutahi Kahiga says Maina will be employed in one of the County’s department.
