Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti has warned Kenyans to be cautious when shopping online particularly during this festive season.
In a statement, Kinoti noted that most of the hoodwinking cases occur via social media platforms such as Instagram.
“We have received numerous reports from clients who ordered for goods advertised on social networking sites especially on Instagram, but the goods were either not delivered or the quality not similar to what was advertised,” the agency’s chief added.
Often, ladies have fallen victim as they explore various shopping sites for trendy outfits such as jewelry.
He urged potential buyers to do their research on the seller before getting into any purchasing agreements.
“Ascertain the identity of the seller and the address of their businesses. Resist the temptation to send money to perceived genuine dealers, who later turn out to be cons,” Kinoti said.
