Boni Khalwale’s photo helping schoolgirls cross road irks netizens

It started off pretty innocuously.

Former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale was photographed – up to now we don’t know by who- helping three schoolgirls cross a road.

“Crossing the busy Kakamega-Kisumu Highway at Amalemba is quite hazardous,” he captioned the two photographs, which he published on social media. “Helped 3 little girls from Bukhulunya Primary School to cross.”

A heartwarming act that in a normal disposition, sans cameras and the discreet desire to win over the hearts of electorate, would have earned him applause.

A few hours after the photos went up on Facebook, they’ve attracted over 7,000 comments. Most of them have the words “camera” and “photograph” in them. Negative. Probably not the pat on the back the good doctor expected.

“Lakini hii Sasa mheshimiwa ni gani?” poses John Ndung’u. “You told a guy to capture a photo of you holding the kid’s hands? I’ve helped many many kids cross busy roads on a daily basis and I don’t see that as an achievement.”

Standard journalist Ted Malanda: “And your photographer just happened to be standing across the road?”

Blogger Robert Alai: “And you had to be photographed?”

Mac Otani: “Stay there for 5 years tujue uko serious.”

Boni Khalwale is eyeing the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in the 2022 elections on a UDA ticket.

The Kakamega-Kisumu road has witnessed several accidents that have caused deaths and injuries. Some of the social media commentators challenged Dr Khalwale to seek a permanent solution not only for the school children but also other pedestrians.
