Three of the four miners who had been trapped at the Abimbo goldmine in Siaya County, have been rescued.
They were pulled out alive at 2.30am, Siaya Deputy County Commissioner Richard Karani confirmed, and rushed to Bondo sub-County Hospital in stable condition.
Six miners have so far been rescued, with efforts to save the remaining one still ongoing.
One body was recovered a few days ago. The mine collapsed on December 2.
Goldmine Shaft Collapsed
According to witnesses, 10 people were initially trapped, with two rescued immediately.
“The shaft crumbled after the reinforcement on its walls collapsed,” David Orido, the site manager said.
