“Why did you do it my buddy?” School old boy mourns teacher following suicide

George Kenny Muhati, 54, was a teacher at Lubinu Boys High School, Kakamega.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, January 11, he entered into the upstairs of a poultry house in his homestead, Lubinu village, and hang himself.

A police report seen by ‘TV47 Digital’ says Muhati also ingested poison. “A chemical namely Triatix, 20ml half consumed was recovered at the scene and kept as exhibit,” says the report filed under OB Number:33/11/01/2022.

The suicide report was made at Shianda Police Station, Mumias East sub-County, by the deceased’s wife Janet Chitech. Like her late husband, Janet is also a teacher. She works at Shitoto Primary School.

In mourning Muhati, one of his former students describes him as a “mentor” and “a friend indeed.”

“Why did you do it my buddy?” poses Stanley Okwako, griefstricken. “Did you really have to end your life like this? You have always been a great inspiration and encouragement to me and many others. Just like that and and you are no more. You have left us in suspense not knowing what happened.

“We shall live to always remember you in our sittings. May your soul rest in peace, away from all the worldly troubles and worries. Go dance with the angels my friend.”

Officers from the police station photographed the scene and transferred the body to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital, Mumias, awaiting postmortem.
