Three students from Murray Girls High School, Taita Taveta County, are in police custody over an alleged arson attempt.
The trio was found with a jerrycan of petrol, firewood and books, which they allegedly intended to use to start a fire in one of the school’s dormitories.

Mwatate sub-County Police Commander Abdille Ahmed says the items have been kept as exhibit. “We will seek a custodial order to detain them and complete our investigations before charging them,” he says.
Upon questioning by police, the three girls reportedly admitted to planning the offence. They will be charged in court soon.
