Trans Nzoia gubernatorial aspirant George Natembeya has hit back at Tiaty MP William Kamket, this time accusing him of suffering from a “bloated ego”.
Natembeya was responding to the lawmaker who threw a shade at him when he announced on Wednesday that he has resigned as Rift Valley Regional Commissioner.
Kamket had expressed relief at Natembeya’s resignation, claiming he will not be missed because he “underperformed”.
Kamket: Good Riddance
“To begin with I want to say congratulations to him. Congratulations for taking that very bold step in order to try and join us in politics but at the same time I also want to say good riddance,” the legislator said on Wednesday at a press conference in Nakuru.
The KANU MP even promised to stage an anti-Natembeya campaign in Trans Nzoia. But the former administrator is unfazed.
“Some leaders just have a bloated ego. Who has told him that Trans Nzoia people are waiting for him to tell them who their next leader should be?” posed Natembeya, daring Kamket to make good his threat. “In fact, if he wants me to get votes, let him come and campaign against me in Trans Nzoia.”
The duo has had a frosty relationship, and Natembeya’s departure comes as a relief for Kamket. Only last September 2021, Natembeya ordered for Kamket’s arrest allegedly over involvement in the Laikipia scuffles.
In January 2021, Kamket was arrested and interrogated by detectives over the insecurity in the bandit-prone Kapedo, at the border of Baringo and Turkana counties. This arrest too was on Natembeya’s orders.
“For the period he [Natembeya] has been Regional Commissioner, he has presided over a reign of terror in the Rift Valley,” Kamket claimed. “As a resident recipient of that terror, I want to say that we wish he resigned earlier.”
