About Us

ABOUT TV47

We are Kenya’s premier Kiswahili TV station boasting of having over 95% our content produced locally and internally by our able team of journalists and producers. 95% of these programmes are presented in Kiswahili which gives us a competitive edge as

a media house since Kiswahili has already made inroads not only in Kenya but also into the global arena, boasting more than 300 million speakers and dominating over the 2,000 languages in Africa. It’s a fact that Kiswahili is the language of the East African Community; it has also been fronted as the language of use by the African Union. South Africa too decreed to have Kiswahili as part of its school curriculum and so we believe that our intention of having our footprints across the entire continent are well on track. Our cutting edge informative content from news, debates, coverage of live events and entertainment is mind-blowing. With the growing importance of information technology, we have invested heavily in both human resource and infrastructure in TV47 Digital; a dedicated team that works around the clock to give you the best digital experience. Follow us across all digital platforms @TV47KE on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and TV47 Kenya on Youtube. You can also download our App on Google play store “TV47 Digital’

Our History

The journey of the creation of TV47 did not start in Kenya. It all began in Rwanda in 2012 after students of Mount Kenya University School of journalism mooted the idea of the school having a TV station for training purposes. Dr. Simon Gicharu, an educationalist and founder of Mount Kenya University, which is East and central Africa’s largest private university bought off ‘Lemigo TV’, one of Rwanda’s privately owned TV stations and it was rebranded to Royal TV. In 2017, Royal TV wound up operations in Rwanda after being faced with the challenge market dynamics and a low skill force for the day to day operations of the TV station. All the equipment was later shipped to Kenya where in the same year(2017), CAPE MEDIA LIMITED, a limited liability company was incorporated in the Republic of Kenya. The idea getting back to TV operations came up in February 2018 and the Royal TV that wound up in Kigali, Rwanda was transformed into TV47 as part of cape Media’s plans to widen its portfolio. TV47 was created with the purpose stepping in to offer Kenyans from across the 47 Counties a platform where untold stories come alive. Upgrade of TV broadcast systems from Kigali Rwanda and construction of ultra modern studios began with a multi million investment for the same. Today, TV47 is fully operational and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya producing and broadcasting high definition videos/content. The station boasts of the ability to produce high end content from across all the 47 Counties in Kenya. Our plan is to expand our reach through being available across all platforms widely accessed by our target audience. In May 2019 we commissioned TV47 Digital, with an aim of leveraging on the power of digital and innovation in today’s world. We also plan to leverage on the power of partnerships in order to meet our targets.
