Murang’a: MCA aspirant’s house burnt down in suspected arson attack

Police in Murang’a County are investigating an incident in which the house of an aspirant for the Member of County Assembly post in the August election went up in flames last night.

George Kinyanjui is running for the Kanyenyaini Ward seat on a Farmers Party ticket.

“Luckily our aspirant was away,” said Irungu Nyakera, chairperson of the party. “The Farmers Party joins the Kanyenyaini community in strongly condemning the hideous crime of burning down the house.”

Nyakera, who is eyeing the Murang’a County gubernatorial seat, urged police to “speedily investigate this act, especially being less than 90 days to the general election, to discourage any suspected form of politically linked violence against aspirants and political campaigns.”

“The Farmers Party Team in Muranga will stand with our aspirants and we have dispatched a response team, comprising national party officials, county team, and local aspirants to support George Kinyanjui and assess the situation,” added Nyakera.
