Today is the United Nations International Day of Happiness. A new survey by the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network shows that Kenyans are among the unhappiest people on earth. It ranks the country position 121 out of 149 countries surveyed. The ranking is based on various metrics including gross domestic product (GDP), levels of corruption, social support, and personal freedoms. Rwanda is ranked in the bottom three, with its populace beating only the war-ravaged Afghanistan and Zimbabwe in the happiness index. Two police officers have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a daring, daylight robbery at Prime Bank, Mombasa Road, yesterday. The two are attached to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit. At the same time, two assault rifles believed to have been issued to the suspects were found abandoned outside a hospital gate in Kiambu town. “The firearms were dropped by a motorbike pillion passenger outside Kiambu Hospital’s gate, shortly before the motorbike disappeared into darkness,” said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in a tweet. A secondary school student who struck a watchman with a metal rod this morning leading to his death will face murder charges. Directorate of Criminal Investigations says the student, who is yet to be named, “has been placed in custody and will be charged with murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the penal code.” In the Sunday morning incident, the student from a boys’ school in Vihiga County, had reportedly became unruly and attacked other students using a metal rod. President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on his re-election. Kenyatta said the victory is “a testimony of the confidence the people of Uganda have in his leadership.” Yesterday, Museveni was declared winner of the hotly contested election after garnering 5,851,037 votes. Kenyans are among the hundreds of Africans who’ve been deported from the United States of America. A plane carrying the deportees left Alexandria, Louisiana, for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, last Thursday. The deportees were living in the U.S illegally.
