A matatu driver accused of killing Deputy Inspector General’s daughter by reckless driving has been detained for four days as investigations continue. In the Thursday evening incident, Patrick Macharia, KMO Sacco driver was reportedly making a turn in his minibus at the junction between Tom Mboya and Muranga Lane at around 8 pm. The suspect allegedly hit Nelly Waithera, 25, daughter to Deputy IG Edward Mbugua, who was crossing at the time. Zambia’s former President Kenneth is dead. Kaunda, who ruled Zambia from 1964 when the southern African nation gained independence from Britain to 1991, died on Thursday, June 17. His death comes just three days after he was hospitalised with pneumonia at the Maina Soko Military hospital in Zambia’s capital- Lusaka. Kaunda was among Africa’s few surviving liberation heroes. Private security consultant Mmwenda Mbijiwe has been reported missing. His family filed missing’s person report at the Central Police Station in Nairobi two days after he vanished. According to his sister Tamara Mbijiwe, her brother allegedly vanished on Saturday, June 12, as he was travelling to Meru from Nairobi at around 8 pm. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will be hiring 5,000 new teachers from next month, this is according to CEO Nancy Macharia. Making the announcement on Tuesday, June 15, Macharia said that some 6,000 intern teachers will also be recruited in a bid to ease the teachers load in handling the increased enrollment. This comes after the National Treasury allocated KSh2.5 billion for the same purpose in the financial years 2021/2022. A school in Ol’ Jorok, Nyandarua County, has been closed indefinitely after 20 pupils tested positive for COVID-19. Eight Uhuru Primary School pupils were discovered to have contracted the novel virus on Tuesday, June 15, while the remaining twelve (12) were detected on Wednesday, June 16. Kenya on Monday, June 14 accepted an invitation from Somalia to reopen its embassy in Mogadishu. In what comes out as Kenya indicating her intentions to restore diplomatic relations with her neighbour, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it is welcoming the decision by Somalia. “We welcomes and acknowledge the invitation by the federal government of Somalia to restore diplomatic relations. Moi Gesusu High school dormitory was on Tuesday night reduced to ashes. Students’ belonging including beddings and personal items were destroyed in the 6:50pm fire. DCI detectives have today rescued a four-year-old baby who had gone missing for five days. Baby Liam Ngucwa Mwangi was found in Naivasha, Nakuru County, by the detectives, after he went missing on June 2. According to DCI, the baby is believed to have been kidnapped by his grandparent’s houseboy, identified as Charles King’ori, alias Delvin Maina.
