Couple sue son, wife for not giving them grandchild; demand KSh75.5M compensation

An Indian couple has moved to court demanding that their only son sire a child within the next one year or pay them KSh75.5 million.

Sanjeev, 61, and his wife Sadhana Prasad, 57, argue that Shrey Sagar and his wife Shubhangi Sinha have caused them unbearable pain after failing to sire a child six years after tying the knot.

“My son has been married for six years but they are still not planning a baby. At least if we have a grandchild to spend time with, our pain will become bearable,” the couple said in a petition.

Lavish wedding reception

According to the couple, the compensation fee will include the cost of a wedding reception in a five-star hotel, a luxury car worth KSh9.2 million as well as the cost of paying for the couple’s honeymoon in Thailand.

“We invest in our children, make them capable of working in good firms. Children owe their parents basic financial care,” Sanjeev told the Times in India.

Sanjeev further says that he spend his life saving in 2006 to send his son to the United States to study aviation.

“I gave my son all my money, got him trained in America. I don’t have any money now. We have taken a loan from bank to build home. We’re troubled financially and personally,” he added.

The couple has now offered to take care of the child if their daughter-in-law doesn’t have time due to her professional commitments.
