Honest taxi driver returns KSh130,000 left behind by a fishmonger in his car

A taxi driver in Ghana has won praise and cash rewards after giving back 8,400 Ghanaian Cedis (about $1,100 or KSh130,000) to the rightful owner who had forgotten it at the backseat of his car.

The money belonged to a woman fishmonger. A video widely shared on social media shows the emotional moment Isaac Ackon is handing over the money to the elderly woman.

The woman said she had been unable to sleep since losing the money. Ackon explained that his honesty was anchored on his Christian faith. Prior to handing it back, he said he prayed at his local church. He told the Ghanian press that he did not even count the money.

Ghanaian Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia was moved by Ackon’s honesty and gave him $2,600 (KSh300,000) as a reward.

“Musician KiDi also gave the driver $660 (KSh80,000),” reports the BBC.

Asamoah Gyan, former captain of the Ghanian national football team, has requested to meet Ackon.
